Embedding Fonts in Project Files

Applications are increasingly deployed in Docker environments or directly on the web server. With doing so, it’s often challenging to provide fonts. In particular, installing fonts in Docker containers can be a tedious task, as previously documented here in our forum. Fonts often can’t be easily distributed or installed on web servers either. This creates a situation, particularly with company-owned fonts, in which not all required fonts are available by default.

List & Label 30 now offers a well-rounded solution to tackle these challenges: embedded fonts.

The idea behind this new feature is simple and effective: instead of relying on already available fonts, developers now have the option to embed fonts directly into their List & Label project files. This ensures that the representation is always the same, regardless of the underlying environment.

How does this work in particular?

Embedded Fonts Project Property: A new project property has been introduced that allows fonts to be embedded directly into the project.

Automatic listing of used fonts: When the dialog opens, all fonts used in the project are automatically listed, giving developers a clear overview of the fonts they need.

Flexible selection: Developers have the option to embed either individual or all fonts in the project, depending on the project’s requirements.

Dynamic deployment at runtime: The embedded fonts are unpacked and temporarily deployed on the server at runtime. This guarantees consistent and correctly formatted output at all times, regardless of the environment in which it is run.

The option to directly embed fonts into project files eliminates the need to install and manage fonts to ensure consistent output quality. This makes projects in Docker and web server environments more flexible, easier to implement and ultimately more successful.

We’re curious about your experience and look forward to feedback and initial reports on this new feature.
